RDC : Florent Ibenge rend ses tabliers à l’équipe nationale

Florent Ibenge a décidé de quitter son poste de sélectionneur de la RD Congo à l’issue d’une réunion tenue ce mercredi avec le président de la Fédération congolaise (Fecofa), Constant Omari, indique la presse locale. L’officialisation devrait intervenir dans la journée.

Cette décision n’a rien d’une surprise tant le technicien était vivement contesté depuis plusieurs mois, avant même la pâle CAN 2019 des Léopards, à peine atténuée par une inespérée place parmi les meilleurs 3es en phase de groupes. On le disait fatigué par les critiques le concernant et le contexte pesant autour de la sélection. «C’est fort possible que cela soit mon dernier match avec les Léopards. On attend de parler avec le président. C’est fort possible», avait-il d’ailleurs glissé après l’élimination en 8es de finalecontre Madagascar (2-2, 2-4 tab).

3e place à la CAN 2015, quart de finale en 2017 (sans oublier une qualification manquée d’un point derrière la Tunisie pour le Mondial 2018) et donc 8e de finale cette année : les performances des Léopards version Florent Ibenge auront été déclinantes. Plutôt que les derniers mois difficiles, on retiendra ses premières années réussies lorsqu’Ibenge incarnait mieux que personne l’image du sélectionneur local à succès. Reste à savoir vers quel profil la Fecofa se tournera pour lui succéder aprèsl’échec de la piste Claude Makelele.
